We Need Your Help! Volunteers Needed for Calgary Casino - August 2019

  1. AEN needs your help at our upcoming fundraising casino on June 8 & 9 at the Starlight Casino in Edmonton. This is the AEN's biggest fundraising event and we need to fill nearly 40 volunteer shifts over the two-day event. Please consider signing up to help the AEN secure the resources we need to continue our work protecting Alberta's environment.

Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) Canada is looking for casino volunteers:

When: August 11 and 12, 2019.
Where: Elbow River Casino (19 - 2121 90 Avenue SW, Calgary AB)

Volunteer positions currently available: 5 Count room volunteers on both days for 6:45 pm to 3:45 am (night shift)

Shifts are generally from 11:00 am- 7:30 pm (day shift) or 6:45 pm to 3:45 am (night shift). Night shifts are the hardest to fill, so we would appreciate if you are able to volunteer for that shift. Casino Volunteers will receive training and meals as well as a small token of our thanks. Transportation will be available if needed.

To volunteer, please contact DMRF Canada by email at info@dystoniacanada.org or call 1-800-361-8061. Please provide date, shift and position OR let us know if you are flexible with your availability. All funds raised by the Alberta government casino are used for dystonia research, awareness and at the local level for programs specially designed for those affected by dystonia.

Becoming a volunteer with AFHS after moving to Calgary has helped me meet new people. Being editor of the Chinook Arch newsletter has sharpened my editing and writing skills. I also enjoy volunteering at the AFHS Library. Being able to help other people learn more about their family is very rewarding!
We just couldn’t manage without all the dedicated people doing everything from running the library to helping new members to organizing audio/visual equipment at meetings. We have a lot of fun working together and enjoy each other’s company. From occasional tasks to Director positions on the Board, there are lots of ways to get involved as a volunteer with AFHS!

Digital Journal Assistant(s)

Assistance is needed to process the digital journals received by our library. This task would require visits to the library to download them from an email account and into folders on one of our main computers. Another possible project will require contacting other organizations for permission to post their journals in a future members-only part of our website.
