Mountain Goat Software Planning Poker Online

Planning poker is a variation of the Wideband delphi method. It is most commonly used in agile software development, in particular in Scrum and Extreme Programming. The method was first defined and named by James Grenning in 2002 and later popularized by Mike Cohn in the book Agile Estimating and Planning, whose company trade marked the term and a digital online tool. Agile expert Mike Cohn and his company, Mountain Goat Software, offers an online version equivalent to their Agile Planning Poker Cards.!!!!!!! It works best if you couple the tool with a conference call facility or video conference so you can all discuss each product backlog and estimates.

  • How to Play

Planning Poker® combines expert opinion, analogy, and disaggregation into an enjoyable approach to estimating that results in quick but reliable estimates.

Participants in Planning Poker® estimating include all of the developers on the team. Remember that developers refers to all programmers, testers, database engineers, analysts, user interaction designers, and so on. On an agile project, this will typically not exceed ten people. If it does, it is usually best to split into two teams. Each team can then estimate independently, which will keep the size down. The product owner participates in planning poker but does not estimate.
